Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in Garden Grove, California in a low-income community. Students come from many diverse backgrounds and cultures though they all bring something special to the school. A majority of the students are English Language Learners and about 90% of the students who attend receive free or a reduced rate lunch.
In my fifth grade classroom, I strive to create an inclusive classroom community, allowing for the students to feel safe, accepted and part of a team.
I know students learn best when given the opportunity for hands on activities. Getting resources that allow them to do so will motivate them to work hard in all areas of their educational day.
My Project
This project will allow a variety of equipment for my students to use with a variety of games. It is very hard to have a P.E. program without equipment. I have requested volleyballs and kickballs. These will allow us to learn how to play games and work on basic skills all students should have, such as catching and throwing skills.
All students love to be outside and getting active, sometimes school is their only opportunity for this type of activity.
These resources will make that statement a reality for my students. We just need the equiptment to be able to play, learn, and be active.
