I teach students from elementary age through high school who have been identified with behavioral, emotional, and/or mental health needs. My students are working hard to learn appropriate ways to manage their emotions and behaviors so they can become successful members of society.
My students desire to be cared for and loved.
Most times when the students go off on a staff member it is one in which they have a good rapport. This often happens because the students are comfortable with this staff member and know they will forgive them after the fact. The students have their challenging days but, their hearts mean well and they deserve the best in all of us.
My Project
Pickle Ball is a sport that is very common among older adults. It is a cross between tennis and ping pong. I would like to teach this lifetime sport to my students to help them improve their hand-eye coordination, agility, and cardio-respiratory endurance.
This equipment will allow my students exposure to a sport in which they can play into older adulthood.
By learning the skills and rules as a youth, my students will be more likely to engage in Pickle Ball as older adults.
This game is both mentally and physically challenging, which will help level the playing field for all of my students. Pickle Ball will also encourage team work and trust among peers. I would love to introduce this sport to my students, but I'm in a bit of a pickle because I don't have any of the equipment. What do you say, can you help me get out of this pickle?
