This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching sixth grade at L.P. Elementary in Thermal, California. We serve a low income community in which 90% of our families are migrant field workers. Our district does not have elementary school PE teachers and it is up to us, their general education teachers to expose them to sports. Our students are funny, intelligent, kind, compassionate and hard working. They come to school despite the obstacles they face at home with a positive attitude ready to learn!

My Project

We at L.P. teach low income students. We don’t have physical education teachers in elementary schools at our district. As a result, us teachers are often struggling to properly teach our students proper physical education standards and sports in school. Our 6th grade team has decided to do organized PE in order to expose our students to different sports. Our goal is to teach them how to be a good sport and how to be team players through softball. We need catchers’ mitts and would love to have funding for this project to help us help our sixth grade classes learn new sports.
