For the past 27 years, I have had the humble privilege of fulfilling my passion and living my best life - teaching and inspiring young minds. Throughout my career, I have been the teacher as well as the learner. Who knew that four, five, and six-year-olds could teach you so much? My students are strong, motivated, full of passion, fun, and a bit feisty. They love learning, exploring, making friends, and having fun in the process. If there was one thing that I would change about my students, it would be absolutely nothing.
These students with their love for school and passion for learning, encourage me to teach engaging and relevant lessons that spark their interest and foster a learning environment.
It's amazing to watch their growth from the beginning of the school year, unable to write their names; to the end of the year writing a short paragraph to tell a narrative story. Their excitement and enthusiasm as we create, learn, struggle, and succeed makes my teaching more meaningful and drives me to do more
The more I learn and know, the better prepared I will be. When I am more knowledgeable about best practices in education and what's good for students, my students benefit because they will receive the best instruction and are able to take on challenges that will prepare them with 21st Century skills. Learning is so much more fun, when you are learning with your peers, sharing your ideas, taking risks, and are able to turnkey what you learned to your colleagues, students, and parents.
If I am expecting my students to learn, then I too, must be willing to learn and grow as well.
This national conference is organized each year by SDE and it's a wonderful way for educators, like myself, to stay up-to-date with the most innovative and engaging tools and practices in education. This conference would allow me to learn strategies that I can use to help differentiate learning, engage all of my students, and assess their learning.
It's no wonder why many educators attend this conference each year. The knowledge that you learn from this conference, helps your students improve their math, reading, and writing skills. This conference explicitly teaches you the skills you need in technology and STEAM in order to help teach your students about the latest tech gadgets and coding opportunities that are available. They are prepared to compete in math, technology, and science with students in other parts of the world.
By far, one of the most valuable benefits from attending this conference is the networking and communicating that occurs between educators. Sharing best practices and staying current with what's best for kids is crucial to improve our craft.
