I need to take a professional development course, "Positive Behavior Supports for the Hard to Teach."
This fall, I will begin my third year as a fifth grade teacher at an elementary school in Central Oregon with students whose needs are diverse. I received my undergraduate degree and graduate degree both in Elementary Education, and have always been passionate about providing my students the best educational experience possible.
Each year, my students' needs differ greatly, and I want to make sure I am able to provide each student everything they need before they move onto middle school.
My students live in a low-income area, and 100% receive free breakfast and lunch. Ever since I began my journey as an educator, I have been passionate about closing the achievement gap, and providing high quality education to all students. I have come to learn that students first need their social and emotional needs met before finding their path to educational success. I am dedicated to providing this for them, and feel truly lucky to get to work with such amazing children!
My Project
In the course, "Positive Behavioral Supports for the Hard to Teach," I will be focused on learning "strategies to help students who are struggling academically, are overlooked, underserved, or frustrated." At the school I work at, many students fall into these categories. I am passionate about closing the achievement gap and giving my students an education that they deserve.
This project will not only help me better understand how to create a socially and emotionally sensitive classroom, but will help students find success in many areas throughout the rest of their lives.
As an educator, I believe it is critical to stay up to date on the latest research that affects our students.
