My students are so incredibly special because my students are actually the teachers! Currently, I am an Instructional Coach for grades K-5, and the teachers I support work in a Title I school that is composed of a variety of students, with the majority of students living below the poverty line and receive a free and/or reduced lunch.
As education has changed over the years, so has the need for strong professional learning for teachers.
We cannot support our students if we are not up to date with current and best practices. While the majority of my teachers include Guided Reading in their everyday practice, we are a community of learners and by utilizing techniques and strategies from Jan Richardson’s latest edition of The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading: An Assess-Decide-Guide Framework for Supporting Every Reader, it would greatly enhance each of my teacher’s Guided Reading knowledge.
By using this updated resource, my “students” will be able to expose their students to new, revised teaching in regards to literacy. I would truly appreciate your support in continuing my teacher’s education as it directly affects the students of Kansas City, Kansas.
My Project
We are a community of learners and by utilizing techniques and strategies from Jan Richadson’s latest edition of The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading: An Assess-Decide-Guide Framework for Supporting Every Reader, it would greatly enhance each of my teacher’s Guided Reading knowledge and understanding of appropriate next steps in the moment and planning ahead for Guided Reading groups.
I would also be using the book in a school-wide book study and coaching cycles with teachers, so they can use the knowledge gained from the book in first-hand experiences.
The book provides an assortment of resources such as teaching prompts, guiding questions, and comprehension modules that cover essential strategies such as monitoring, retelling, inferring, summarizing, and many more.
