Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach math to fourth grade students who have been identified as gifted and talented. They go to school in a low-income urban neighborhood plagued by violence. Despite these hardships I love that they are anxious to learn and soak it all in as quickly as they can.
Our classroom is the porthole to connect math concepts to the real world.
My students are high achievers who need to be challenged in order to reach their full potential and overcome the odds.
My Project
PBL or Project-Based Learning "is a student-centered pedagogy that involves a dynamic classroom approach...in which students acquire a deeper knowledge through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems." - Wikipedia
This project will give my students the opportunity to investigate authentic multi-faceted problems.
With little technology equipment at their disposal, I believe these HP Chromebooks will allow my students to engage in real-world problem solving, and work at their own pace over an extended period of time to complete my projects that are designed to incorporate and reinforce various math skills. They will be able to gain knowledge by responding to challenging tasks through online research in the classroom.
Collaboration skills will be enhanced as students work together to impact the school and their community.
