This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The majority of my students have a need for social behavior skills. Most have been suspended from school for ten or more days and already have missed between 25 to 100 days of school (this current school year).
My students have difficult home lives (lower socio-economic, live in violent neighborhoods, and many use unhealthy habits to cope with traumatic experiences).
As a result, they tend to remain in a fight or flight mode all day long. They skip classes, are argumentative with adults, and are misguided when it comes to solving problems.
The Serenity Zone room, is a place where students develop a significant level of trust and know that I am here to help and serve them.
My Project
Once appropriate behaviors have been defined and taught by classroom teachers, they need to be acknowledged on a regular basis. CHS has designed a formal system that rewards positive behaviors. P.R.I.D.E. Bucks are immediate forms used by the individual teacher, at their discretion, as a tool of encouragement and a student motivator. P.R.I.D.E. Bucks are used to encouraging and reinforcing positive behaviors demonstrated on a consistent basis. Teachers can award P.R.I.D.E. Bucks to students, whether they teach them or not. P.R.I.D.E. Bucks are redeemed the first Friday of each month at the school store which is open in the cafeteria during all lunches.
