I am a school counselor in a Title I school in Brooklyn. Most students are low income yet, creative, thoughtful and full of questions! Our students are eager to learn and love to come to school each day!
As a School Counselor, we are focusing on the social and emotional well being of our students in grades k-5.
So many of our parents are struggling to be able to provide clean clothes or even get to a laundromat! As a school, we have been working to become a community school, which will mean we will get a washer and dryer and be able to assist with laundry. Many staff members donate money and clothes for our students. I myself have gone shopping for some students who were lacking clothes and even undergarments! I'd love to be able to send home some gift cards so they can choose some of their own new stuff!
I would like to share these Amazon gift cards with our students
as Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports rewards for children who are working hard each day and trying their best. I would like to acknowledge students for "being responsible, respectful, kind, and safe". It will reinforce positive behaviors, show our children that their efforts are noticed, support their mental health and emotional well-being.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
