Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher at a Title I school, I watch my students overcome challenges and obstacles daily. My students are both courageous and resilient. The majority of these children have not had life go in their favor. Most of my students have had to overcome more obstacles than any child should.
Despite every negative aspect weighing down on these children, they somehow arrive at school every day wearing a smile and ready to learn.
My kids are the future. They are strong, driven, and ready to improve the world. All my children need is someone to believe and invest in them.
My Project
PBIS, positive behavioral intervention and supports, is a popular program my school has implemented to promote school safety and good behavior. Part of the implementation of the PBIS system relies on incentives students earn through meeting expectations put in place to help them become successful students. My students are hard working, respectful, and full of potential. I love these children as my own and it can be really tough knowing they often go without, due to financial burdens at home. This project will bring PBIS incentives to my classroom that students have requested and highly desire.
I would love to continue to provide my students tangible rewards for meeting expectations and showing up, despite all the challenges so many of them face.
The items I'm requesting will be used to stock a classroom PBIS store. Students can earn points daily through good behavior and save points up to purchase these highly desired items. Having incentives really motivates my students to be the be the best version of themselves, perform well, help each other, and succeed in school. Students save up points through hard work and having the opportunity to use those points to purchase rewards is highly motivating for my children. Another classroom challenge for my students has been the pandemic. I'm requesting a water cooler for many reasons. The students can use the hot water feature to make noodle soup for lunch, which was the number one requested reward of my students. The students will be able to purchase the soup with PBIS points. The water cooler also will be a sanitary place for students to refill their water bottles. Lastly, having a water cooler in the classroom means students don't loose out on vital instructional time to get a drink.
