Ms. Esmond from Milwaukee WI is requesting art supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students yarn, knitting needles, and crochet hooks to pay it forward and develop their character education.

Almost all of my students come from low-income homes and are struggling readers. Some of my students have come here from other countries and are working on English as their second language. My goal is to find reading materials that match their needs, motivate them, and continue to seek activities that increase kindness to one another and allow them to “pay it forward.”
My class consists of 22 students.
Of those 22, five are English learners, three receive resource services, and one is in speech.
I believe giving them more resources to assist them to do their personal best, will help them increase their reading levels and allow each of them to put their best foot forward to contribute to our classroom community and the world around them.
The materials will be used to create scarfs and afghans that will be donated to those in need of warmth during the winter. I’m making connections with a rescue mission near us and a veteran’s center, in hopes of donating to them when our projects are completed. As we read the book “Pay It Forward,” my students are working on their reading skills and increasing character education. Our hopes are to help someone to have a better day. We want to crochet and knit items to help keep others warm. We all need a little more kindness in the world and we’d like to pay it forward in this way.
