I teach 7th Grade Language Arts at a junior high school. My students are avid readers, and I am always looking for books that they will learn from and can use to form personal connections to characters, themes, and situations.
Amazing things can happen when you give a student a book that they can instantly connect with.
I want to make sure that not only do valuable learning experiences happen with the books I select for my classroom, but that they also give students a love of reading.
My Project
A new school year brings an excited wave of new students into my classroom. I want to make sure that my students have everything they need in order to have a successful 7th grade year! These are all supplies that I often need to make my classroom a comfortable and welcoming environment for learning. I often pair creative projects with the novels, grammar, and writing in the curriculum, and it is hard for students to work creatively when they do not have adequate writing or coloring supplies. As trivial as a supply of tissue boxes may seem, they help add to the feeling of support and comfort that I work hard to maintain in my classroom environment.
By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their enjoyment of learning.
The item that I am most excited about in this project is a classroom set of the novel, Patina, by Jason Reynolds. This engaging and relevant story is one that my students are sure to connect with, and will also help foster an excitement for reading.
Many of my students come from low-income homes, and just knowing that the basic supplies will be provided for them will help many kids feel much more excited about coming to school and learning. Together let's make the 2019-2020 school year the best one yet!
