Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom students come from primarily lower economic backgrounds with 100% of our students receiving free lunch at our Title I inner-city school. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are just as diverse in their academic levels.
As a departmentalized teacher, I teach the entire grade level for Science/Social Studies.
I reach many more students than just the classroom teacher and have additional needs. I also partner with our other content team members to present a collaborative environment across our content areas.
We are home to a STEM program where our students enjoy a variety of additional learning opportunities which we are able to bring them. I partner with this teacher to present other opportunities for our students to expand their learning.
My students are an extension of me and my lifelong goals of learning and activity! Thank you!
My Project
This Kid's Flag Building Kit is a good way to engage and teach our students as a follow-up to our Social Studies History Lessons and the history of our flag. The students will apply their STEAM Science Engineering skills they have learned in order to build the flags and color them in properly using what they have learned in Art. The crayons and markers will help the students color in their wooden flags, with Red, White, and Blue colors. This lesson will be fun and will be powerful by sending home the end product to their families as a reminder of their school year; especially coming back after a year of remote home learning. This will serve as a powerful, visual teaching tool about US History we have learned at school.
