I have the opportunity to teach students who are some of our future doctors, lawyers, scientists, and teachers. These kids have high hopes for higher education and dream about exciting opportunities that await them. They are excited about learning and have a drive to succeed in all they do!
So many of the students at my school and in my classroom are high-achieving, engaged learners that are excited about what the future holds for them.
They are go-getters and they think "outside the box." I can't wait to see where this grit and determination takes them!
In the Pathfinders Everyday Computing 5 day course, I will learn all about integrating computational thinking into my everyday mathematics curriculum! As a 2nd grade teacher, I feel this is a perfect age for a child to begin thinking analytically and have a firm understanding of computational thinking.
Through this professional development opportunity, I will explore the integration of math lessons with computer technology activities, develop my own, and have access to resources for integrated mathematics at the K-5 level.
I will also have the chance to learn about programming software developed for school-age children.
I am fortunate to be in a school that has 1:1 devices for its students, and I believe this opportunity will help me use these devices to appropriately enhance my students learning! As computer science is becoming such a large part of our society and culture, I am excited to help equip my students to be contributing members of the future generations.
