I'm a fourth grade teacher at an ESL/BILINGUAL school. My students come from various backgrounds and speak multiple languages. As my luck would have it, the students I have in my class now were also my previous students in second grade!
It's so great to be getting another chance to see how far my students have come and help them develop even more!
It was a great surprise for them and myself, because they are such fun students that are just so easy to connect to. Knowing that they not only grew taller, but also have matured I cannot wait to form a stronger bond with them this year.
This if my first year in fourth so not only are they learning and growing, but so am I. Can't wait to see how much we will learn, grow, and come together!
My Project
Imagine sitting in a classroom all day long on a very uncomfortable, stiff chair. It's hot, you're tired and you just don't feel like being in school. You're stuck sitting on this awful chair that is causing you pain and discomfort. Would you feel like paying attention to the teacher or any motivation to learn? NO!
It could be more conducive to learning if the students were more comfortable in their seats!
Flexible seating in a classroom is vital! If a student is able to move around and find an area or seat where he/she is comfortable they are more inclined to work. Right now I have my students move around the classroom and work on a rug, with a pillow, write on a clipboard, and move to work on different tables. However it's simply not enough!
Knowing how you learn is essential to the learning process. I want them to learn who they are as learners, am I someone who learns better when I stand? When I lie down? When Im tapping my foot?
Help me provide them with wobbly stools, laptop lap desks, office chairs, and exercise ball chairs. These flexible seating options will make a huge difference not only with their learning but also with their behavior.
