My students need Legos to extend their creative thinking through our curriculum. My students need chapter books to learn about the past and a comfy rug to read on.
We start our mornings with a dance party. Students just letting loose and enjoying school. Sensory learning is key. You will not see a lot of sitting down and worksheets in my classroom, we are authentic project assessment based with engaging lessons and students interacting with each other.
My school is the real thing.
The teachers bring it every day for children and they are relentless. When we give it our all, the students are a mirror image of our passion. They come to school ready to work to their full potential and are excited to be there. They have the biggest hearts. My school is full of children that overcome tough obstacles. They come to school every day and are ready to learn with an eagerness that cannot be ignored. My school is a high poverty, low income, high ESOL school. We are a Title One school that has received school of excellence the past couple years with our amazing students and their hard work. I want the best for my students. I want them to succeed and I want to be able to give them what they need and never tell them no. I make my classroom home to my students. I do this by providing a fun, engaging, safe, educational, and respectful environment. Most of the students in our school do not get this at home. Every child deserves this.
My Project
My kids love to touch, flip, twist, build, pour, grab, pound, and throw anything they can get their hands on. Teachers are being pushed to bring out the creativity in students. Sensory and creativity sounds like lots of lessons involving Legos. Legos can be integrated into the entire curriculum across the board - ABC order with sight words, friction, bar graphs, addition/subtraction towers, sink or float, and so much more. Even just giving them the challenge to build something without a set of directions. Next, I complete chapter book units each month with my students. I have read the Rush Revere chapter books over the past couple months and I am dying to read them to my students. They are just filled with facts from the past and the storyline is so entertaining. I love them and I know my students will too! The last item is a green rug. In my classroom library, there is no rug for students to sit on while they read.
These items will improve my classroom by helping my students stay focused during a lesson and extend their creativity.
The books will help my students learn about the past that ties into our past and present objective. The Legos will be such a huge hit in the classroom because they are so engaging and fun! We desperately need a rug so these little kiddos get to enjoy that home-y feeling in our classroom and read a book in a comfy spot.
