Engage, engage... engaged! What an amazing year thus far! In our classroom, we discuss reaching higher and goal setting often; our small groups are named after universities. At times, you may hear a student or two debating which college is their top pick and why. My students come from families of varying backgrounds including differing socioeconomic statuses.
My students need to be prepared for the 21st century that utilizes technology, collaboration, creativity, and ingenuity.
I would like to incorporate STEM into our 5th-grade classroom to ensure that I give ALL my students ALL possible opportunities to be excited about learning and be successful! My amazing 5th-grade students are so very inquisitive, eager to learn, and truly work hard every day! I differentiate instruction to meet and maximize the learning needs of all 30 students.
My Project
I am seeking initial class sets of novels to add to our classroom library. In the Spring, we will be reading Maniac Magee. The chosen novel corresponds with curriculum standards, making the experience even more enriching and meaningful. Furthermore, the use of novel studies in the classroom also fosters various types of discourse that are valuable in both the learning environment and in the real world. It's crucial that students have high-interest books to read and that keep them engaged and loving to learn!
Raising socially aware children who communicate well and have the ability to understand the various undertones and meanings of stories is my ultimate goal!
This year, I would like to read the novel Maniac Magee. Maniac Magee is a page-turner. Students feel this book is exciting. It is a moving story that explores racism and myth-making.
When completing a novel study, not only are the students practicing reading skills, we are also able to cover many of the other Common Core Standards! We are excited to add these to our class library! Our classroom does not have these texts, and this donation to our classroom library would be helpful for years to come! Thank you for helping us grow - Readers are Leaders!
