We start out eating breakfast and swiftly transition into our morning meeting. Then we kick off our two hours of reading. Next, we have math and I try to incorporate centers. We have lunch and recess, and then switch back to math. We then go to Fitness, and then return for social studies and science.
I have sixteen first graders.
They are all hungry for an engaging learning experience. Most of my students come from low social-economic homes, most of my students are on free/reduced lunch. My students are struggling with behavioral issues, and I am constantly looking for new ways to improve my classroom management. We are always trying to learn new methods and new solutions!
We are really good with learning vowel patterns, but we need work on building our fluency and becoming confident readers.
My Project
This will give my first grade classroom a desire to love the free read time of the day. I always give my sweet emergent readers twenty minutes of reading time, a day. These books will be more interesting to my students and they will be so engaged in the idea of learning more about their favorite characters.
The flashcards are to help us become quicker with our math facts.
This project will make a difference by giving my class the love and desire to read.
These books will be kept for many years to come, and impact hundreds of students along my educational journey. Please help my first graders grow a passion for reading. My students need "I can read" books and math flash cards.
