This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are faced with challenges in and outside of the classroom. Due to low-socioeconomic status, hunger, poverty, and lack of resources, they are unable to receive significant support from the home. Our parents are working full-and part-time jobs to sustain their households. This leads to our school being an intricate part of our students' lives. My students depend on me to render a positive yet challenging learning environment, hands-on activities, and to be an inspiring, invigorating teacher every day.
My students are reading at least two grade levels below their actual grade.
Many of these students lack resources, lack support at home, have low self-esteem, but are still eager to learn how to overcome being a struggling reader.
My Project
Students will be able to draw characters, setting, beginning of a story, middle of a story, and end of a story. Students will also illustrate the problem and solution of a story. Students will use these items to create their final project of a comic strip on his or her book.
Students need crayons, markers, and paint to illustrate their understanding of stories.
This will help students have a visual of the story and better comprehension of stories. The ability of students creating their interpretation of stories allows me to determine their understanding. Therefore, having these items will further allow students to be creative and become artist in their own way.
