Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a kaleidoscope of 20 inquisitive and eager to learn second graders. I teach at a Title I elementary school in Las Vegas, NV where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My classroom consists of ELL and special needs students. These students often face challenges that require additional supports in order for them to achieve academic success. Each child that enters my life enriches it in a unique and exciting way. I hope to do the same for them each day that they enter my classroom.
My Project
When a child associates a positive feeling or emotion with a learning experience, the learning is more likely to be permanent. My students need to feel that learning is more fun and less daunting. They are often discouraged by the amount of stamina required to meet our rigorous standards. Room transformations are a fun, easy and highly effective way to keep my kids actively engaged and ensure their academic success. My project will provide party supplies and decorations for 3 complete room transformations. Each one will have a different theme: "Magical Math Strategies", "Pirate Experiment" and "The Reading Police Academy".
Inspired by an amazing 2 day training at the renowned Ron Clark Academy, I initiated a room transformation to jump start my students' enthusiasm for learning.
I want my students to feel as excited about learning as I am about teaching. Therefore, I kicked off a successful shark themed room transformation which included "A Reading Frenzy" and "Our Math Skills Are JAWSOME" math lesson. Wow! What an incredible reaction my students had to diving into our classroom "shark tank" to read under the sea and solve math problems. I want to bring this level of engagement and excitement to my students again and again!
I strive to make my students to feel energetic, excited, and happy when they enter our classroom everyday. Room transformations are key to achieving this goal! Please consider supporting my project. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
