My Students

My students are a excited learners with a lot of different stories. Many of my students have chosen to attend a virtual learning school because they have had experiences in school or life that make attending a traditional school difficult for them.

My students have some of the most interesting stories from being professional extreme athletes who travel the world to compete, to missionaries in remote parts of the world, to those struggling with tragic stories and illnesses.

All of these kids have found a home at our blended learning school because we afford them the freedom to tackle life and school on a schedule that works best for them.

My Project

My students are working to research ethical issues in the world that students have a connection with or passion for. After gaining a strong understanding of their chosen issues (causes, players, impacts), students are looking at what is being done to address these issues. This research is culminating in a project, of each student's design, that addresses their selected issue in a tangible way. The goal is to help students understand that you are never too small to help out. I am also hoping to widen my students' scope of understanding and empathy about their neighbors both locally and globally.

In order to help my students to be successful in this project I need books with ideas to help inspire my students to get involved with issues that speak to them.

The books that I am hoping to obtain have over 35 ideas that address relevant issues and provide tangible responses. These books also include lists of supplies, budgeting, and other considerations for students when planning an event to give back. From the information in these books my students will gain a strong understanding of the many items they will need to host events to help out.

Once students have formed an idea they will need to build a budget and find a way to fund their project. My hope is to help my students see that it is possible to help out, if you have a good understanding of an issue, its needs, and how to plan financially for an event. These books help to provide the outline for success in not only planning an event, but staying on budget in order to achieve an outlined goal.
