My Students
At 87% we have one of the highest percentages of students qualifying for the national free and reduced priced lunch programs. Our school and our program are one of the most successful AP college prep programs for socio-economically disadvantaged students in the entire state of Illinois! A few years ago our AP scores for our program were the third highest in the nation! The students in our program average a robust 29.4 on ACT test. We are very proud of the college and career opportunities this program provides for the students in our community.
My Project
Th book, Strangers in their Own Land, is rapidly becoming a powerful economic / sociological tool to help students come to grip with the idea that contrary to the long held truisms of the field of economics, people often fail to act in their own self-interest. This resource challenges Adam Smith's long standing economic principle and has changed how we must think about the relationship between self-interest and other cultural, economic, regional, and religious factors interplay to give us results that are not predicted by classical economics. This book provides insight to modern economic and political decision making factors in the America's Deep South and looks at the impact this has on our Nation's future.
