Help me give my students neckties, deodorant, and necklaces to dress-up for the Evening of Elegance. Each of the student will look, smell, and feel good about themselves.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I mentor students in grades 3rd-5th students who need motivation. Elementary school is the most important time in a child’s life. If children love school and love themselves during their formative years they will love learning throughout their lifetime. Our school is an AVID and Title I school. We have been working really hard all year to prepare our students for success. Our resource officer and the teachers mentor the boys and girls in a program called Sister to Sister and Brother to Brother. The sessions are held bi-weekly and during these session we teach the students about self-esteem, respect, good choices, and etiquette. The students are having an end of the year celebration. During this celebration the students will dress in formal evening attire. The students need access to materials and items that will enable their event to be successful.
My Project
Student have had several lessons on real world soft skills. Lessons, topics includes body awareness, etiquette, career choices, peer responsibilities, self confidence, and more. Our students will use the information that they have learned during each of their mentoring sessions during this event. The night of elegance will take place at our school. We are inviting members of our community and we would like for the students to look and feel their very best. Miss Ubuntu USA 2017 Shalela Dowdy is our keynote speaker for the evening. This event is open to our community and we are looking forward to see you all come out to our event and enjoy an Evening of Elegance.
