Park Vista's College & Career Signing Day&College/Career Fair
My students need examples of post secondary institutions. We will proudly fly these flags on our College & Career Signing Day and them hang them in our school counseling suite the remainder of the year.
We are a very traditional comprehensive high school. Our students are part of a large suburban community in Palm Beach County. We have about 43% of our students that participate in the free/reduced lunch program. Even with this, they graduate at a rate above 95% and 93% go on to either a 2-year college or a 4-year college.
Our community and students have gotten used to our school counseling department's use of various social media outlets and parent/student meetings to assist them in post secondary planning .
We are part of a community where the vast majority of our parents have not attended post secondary institutions and find it difficult to navigate the difficult process of researching colleges, apply to colleges, apply of Bright Futures, and applying for FAFSA.
Our community has the drive to want what is best for their children and to do what is necessary to assist their children successfully plan, apply and execute a post secondary plan.
My Project
We are hosting a college career signing day for our graduating seniors where they will be able to indicate their post secondary plans to the underclassmen. We are also hosting approximately twenty colleges, career colleges and the military to assist in celebrating our seniors and to be available to discuss future plans with our underclassmen. The materials we will be needing include: college flags and banners, display tables, assorted games, art materials, and food for the participants.
We are attempting to celebrate our seniors' post secondary choices and inspire our underclassmen to begin/continue to plan for theirs.
Our plan is to turn our one hour lunch period into a carnival of post secondary success and planning.
