National Beta Club members show excellence in academics, leadership, service, and good character. They have volunteered at local town events such as the Day of Play, packed holiday boxes at the local food bank, and helped with the Town Clean Up Day. These students strive to do their best work at school, and keep high averages in all of their subjects. At the Virginia State Beta Competition, 12 of the 16 students qualified for the National Beta Convention in 7 different events. They will be competing in 8 events at Nationals, several of which they have placed in the previous two years.
My Project
This is an opportunity for rural students to expand on their learning locations. These students will travel to another state halfway across the country in an airplane (the first flight for over half the students, and for some, even leaving the east coast!) to compete against other honor students from all around the country in academics, arts, and performance. The higher level of compeition is rarely seen by our students in their hometown and pushes them to strive for achievements not available in South Hill. Our students deserve great experiences for academics and a reminder that small town doesn't mean small time.
