Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As an adult educator, I teach a very diverse group of students ranging in age from 18-55.
Race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status are not the only factors that make them diverse, but also their learning styles, their educational backgrounds, and their parental responsibilities.
I teach technology-enhanced ESL and GED preparation (bilingual Spanish-English) in a computer lab in a relatively small classroom.
Close to 98% of my students in my classes are parents — the majority of of whom are in my class to help their children succeed in school.
My Project
Meaningful family engagement is a critical part of eliminating the achievement gap, especially in low-income communities. PowerMyLearning will help the parents in my class engage with their children in their academic work -- with more confidence and meaningful dialogue. This innovative program will improve their children's mastery in subjects such as math, language & science -- increasing.student achievement and family engagement.
Family Playlists™ (provided by PowerMyLearning) will transform the learning relationships between my students, their families, and their children's teachers.
Parents will use the tablets to collaborate in my class with the "Family Playlists" to be able to become parent engagement leaders!
