I teach language arts to 63 second-grade students from diverse backgrounds. All of the students at my school receive a free breakfast and lunch daily. Some of the students also receive food backpacks for the weekends. Many of my students are learning to speak English as their second language.
My students come to school eager to learn every day.
They are very appreciative of kind gestures and support. Sadly, students attending high-poverty schools are often not privy to the support and generosity that their counterparts in wealthier schools receive.
My Project
I am requesting twelve boxed sets of Biscuit Phonics Books to help my twelve most struggling readers make the academic gains necessary to be successful.
My kids love the Biscuit Series Books!
I'm hoping to get funding for this project so that when I host my after school workshop for parents and students of the most struggling readers in my class, they can each leave with a set of these books.
Second graders love to learn! They love to curl up and read interesting books! Their parents love to watch them learn and grow, but are lacking resources to help their children advance academically.
My vision is to offer my parents and their struggling student ideas for helping their children at home to improve their literacy skills. I would love to offer each participant a set of these highly engaging books to take home after the workshop to read with their child.
These books offer colorful illustrations, zany plots and focus on long and short vowels! Just what my students need!
If you contribute to this project, you can feel confident that your donation will have a huge impact on students that are lacking skills and financial resources to obtain materials to strengthen these skills!
