Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I would like to provide a make and take series of activities for my students and their parents. I would provide the supplies and instruction for the parent and child so that they can make an alphabet chart, a letter/sound game, a letter matching game, number cards, a set of counting manipulative's, a counting game, dice for counting and early addition skills. I propose to invite the parents monthly to class so that they can make the activity with their children. Parents will be welcome to stay to help the children whose parents were unable to stay for that particular activity. These activity and supplies would introduce math and literacy skills to the children and provide them with materials for home use. Parents would receive instruction about how to use the various materials at home. Books would be given to all of the parents that participated. Parents are the children's first teachers. Through these classes parents would be able to work with their child and learn what is appropriate for their child's current developmental stage. It is imperative that we provide them with the tools they need to work with their children. Thank you for this opportunity.
