Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like to sit on your parent's lap and read your favorite story book? Please help us to create these memories for our students.
My students are fun, energetic, inquisitive learners.
We are a Nevada school that is now Title I ARRA due to our large number of families that receive free and reduced lunch and breakfast. We are in year four of Needs Improvement for No Child Left Behind. We need to catch our students at an early age to make sure they are better prepared for the curriculum in the upper grades that take the Criterion Reference Tests.
My Project
We will be having weekly Parent Literacy Hours with parents and students. In these sessions we will introduce and practice literacy skills that parents can do at home with their children. We will be sending home a book with each family after each session. Then the families can use the books to practice the literacy strategies they have learned in each session. The goal is to get families reading together and discussing books more often.
Parents are a child's first teacher.
Many parents want to help their child with reading skills and strategies but do not have the resources they need. We will be having literacy sessions for parents to practice working on reading skills at home with their children.
