Promoting kindness and instilling a growth mindset are the foundations for my classroom. One of the first books we read is “How Full is Your Bucket?” This inspires kindness from the beginning of the year. When students can show tolerance, patience, and gentleness for peers and adults within the school setting, the classroom is a warm place to spend the day. Students in my class are able to not only show each other how to be kind little people, but encourage their peers with the “I can do it!” attitude of positivity and growth thinking.
When observing my students you may hear phrases such as: “I am going to train my brain,” or “My brain is getting stronger,” and “I believe in the power of yet!”
Our Title I school provides breakfast and lunch for every student, which means fewer food insecurities and more learning. Students understand they get what they need to be successful and that doesn’t always mean they get the same things. My first graders are confident, “I’ll try anything,” kind, problem solvers, and are happy to come to school each day.
My Project
Mail time! One of the most chaotic times for the day for students and teachers alike! At the end of each school day, students check their mailbox for parent communication and completed work. Many students can’t wait to bring home their work, projects, and parent communication. Having an efficient system makes this a smoother process.
Children are the priority: Change is the reality: Collaboration is the strategy -Judith Billings
This communication station would help to simplify the end of the day process of packing up for the day. Each mail slot is big enough for papers, personal items, and projects. This station is made of sturdy birch wood and can be moved around, as it is on wheels. There is also a small whiteboard for last minute communication notes.
Thank you for considering my project for my students and classroom. This piece of furniture will surely help make afternoons smoother and parent communication easier.
