Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love science. That's right, science! They are eager to start projects and presentations and to think about the bigger scope of the world around us. They actively take their knowledge and implement strategies to create a better tomorrow. My students have also been labeled, at one time or another, as "dis-advantaged", "at-risk" , and "less-fortunate".
My classroom gives learners the tools for success, no matter what that success looks like.
Many of my students are working towards college after high school, and some are jumping right into the trade workforce with rewarding careers. My students are enthusiastic about the future and I feel grateful and privileged to help them get there.
My Project
We've all heard of the many types of parasites, but can students actually identify them if seen in real life? And do students really understand that parasites don't just plague other organisms, but are a major human concern all around the globe.
Having real, preserved specimens in class will bring a sense of realness of disease to my students.
Today, even with many medical advances, parasites and their diseases are still finding ways to inflict injury on humans and the environment. Parasitology applies to STEM by researching how these organisms affect the environment as well as humankind, and finding life-changing solutions to help those in need.
