My students are creative and curious learners. We spend a lot of time working on what we call the Four I's. They are imagination, integrity, intellect, and inquiry. They absorb ideas like sponges and are constantly trying to figure out how they can affect change in their worlds.
My students thrive when they have real-world problems to solve using what they have just learned.
When presented with a problem, they see an opportunity to find a solution rather than the problem.
My Project
Every year my fifth graders start asking when we will start studying the periodic table the first week of school. They are so excited because, every year, each of my fifth-grade students created a superhero persona based on an element of the periodic table and parades through the building sharing their superhero with all of the younger students in the building.
The joy and affection for the periodic table and chemistry that my students leave fifth grade with is infectious and exciting.
I need these materials to help my students create costumes for the parade. They also need age-appropriate references and study materials to learn more about the elements and the periodic table. Please help support my fifth graders in their development of a love of chemistry!
