My students need a gold membership for Nearpod. This service allows my students to utilize technology in the classroom and stay engaged in instruction.
I work with first grade and fifth grade students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, and emotional disabilities. My students all are in the special education program at our school, and have a wide range of abilities and levels of performance. About 90% of the students with whom I work are from low-income families. They sometimes lack appropriate clothing or may not get to eat all of their meals at home.
My students genuinely want to like school, but they have many challenges to face.
They have to work so hard to make progress at school. When they have to deal with difficulties at home and school, it's sometimes too much to handle. When they achieve despite all of these challenges, the amount of pride they feel in themselves is unlike anything I've seen before.
My Project
My students would really benefit from being able to use Nearpod with a "gold license." Nearpod is a program that uses a type of presentation program similar to PowerPoint, but allows for students to interact with the presentation and complete activities. These can be quizzes, drawing activities, short answer responses, and more. This program has allowed my students to utilize technology during whole group instruction as well as collaborate with each other online.
Instead of having students sit at their desk during instruction, Nearpod allows students to actively participate in their instruction!
Whole group instruction can be a perfect example of when students might disengage and lose focus of the lesson. Nearpod has tons of tools to help maintain student focus and allow more student use of technology. Having a gold license allows for more options such as independent student lessons and VR field trips.
All of these additional features would continue to allow my students to receive a special and unique education. We have received four iPads thanks to DonorsChoose over the past year and a half. Receiving a gold license would allow our students to use these iPads to their fullest.
