My students need 7 inch tablets so we can move toward a paperless classroom. These items will be used in place of printed guided reading and practice books.

My Students
Hello! I am a third grade teacher in a low income, Title One school district. We are a very diverse community. Our population consists of Hispanic, African American, and Caucasian students. My classroom is a Team Teaching Inclusion setting with myself and a Special Education teacher sharing a classroom. Special needs and general education students spend their entire day together allowing for 100% inclusion throughout our school day. I have been so fortunate to teach in this community for 20 years and I absolutely love it! It has been a dream to have students make a difference in the world by working towards a paperless classroom. By using technology in place of paper, we can save trees and have a positive impact on our planet!
My Project
After exploring the devastation deforesting has on our planet and its inhabitants, our classroom would like to start taking steps to become a minimal paper environment. We currently use individual whiteboards, when possible, instead of paper. During reading, I print out multiple copies of leveled books for each of my 22 students on a weekly basis. Sadly, one tree makes about 16 reams of copy paper.
Having small, electronic tablets for my reading groups would eliminate paper printouts.
More importantly, I will be teaching my students they can make a positive outcome in our world with just one small change within our classroom environment!
