My students need paper, a printer / copier, and the toner for future use. The students will be able to print from the computers and I can copy their homework.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
How many times do you push the print button each day? Do you know that sinking feeling and sense of panic that sets in when your printer doesn't work? Now imagine not having a printer or a copier at all. Finally, imagine being a teacher without a printer and open access to a copier.
My students are a very lively group of boys and girls.
Some are serious, some are silly, some are thriving, and others face many challenges. No matter which one he or she is, I care about, and connect with them all.
Our school is located in a high-poverty urban area in Missouri. Many of my students face difficulties in meeting their basic needs at home. What is uplifting about that situation is that we have several charities that service our school providing clothing, coats, shoes, and bags of food on a daily basis if needed. Once the basic needs of each student are met, they are able to focus on learning. It is my goal and passion to provide them with a high interest, hands-on, real world education.
My Project
The students' homes have very limited technology, if any at all. The students are desperate to get on the computers at school. Some want to play educational games and print out their award certificate for passing the next reading level. Some want to do research on the Internet and print out their findings. Others want to type and add clip art to create a book. Have you ever typed using the "airplane landing" method? You circle around and land when you find the right letter. Well, this is how 2nd Graders type. Can you imagine the let down after spending hours making a book and now you can't print it? Some research is still done, but on a limited basis since the students have to print the information by hand. All of this can change with the help of donors like you. By having a printer in our classroom, it will open a whole new world of literacy for students. It will also help me make copies for homework since I do not have regular access to a copy machine.

To their dismay, just joking, it would also mean homework every night, and not just the times that the school copier actually works and has paper. Paper is like gold at our school! The printer and copier would make a significant difference in our day to day activities, and would be able to be used for students in years to come.
