My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges in school and outside of school. Many are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Despite this, they still come to the classroom often with a smile, eagerly anticipating "What are we drawing today?"

The students I work with are direct, active, require positive encouragement, clever, and genuinely want to succeed.

I want my kids to feel welcomed, noticed, validated and celebrated when they come into my classroom, regardless of their interest in art or what their life outside of school looks like.

My Project

I get one box of copy paper from the District at the start of the year. With over 800 students, and 34 different classes per week, I go through paper quickly and am out of my supply.

I need a serious stockpile of quality paper to continue doing amazing projects.

Having heavy weighted paper (watercolor paper) will allow my students to use things like paint and glitter glue without the paper wilting the paper. This makes the artwork look so much better and the kids are much happier with it, too. Copy paper is okay for drawing on and using dry materials like markers and colored pencils, but not for paint!
