This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My pre-kindergarten through third-grade scientists attend a high-poverty school in Wisconsin. I am extremely fortunate to be their elementary science teacher, and I am the only science teacher in our district for this age group.
Our school has a science lab, and the students go two times a week to participate in hands-on activities that explore life, earth, and physical sciences.
They are also involved in STEM activities that explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. They are excited and eager to learn, and one day they may become scientists themselves.
My Project
We use a lot of paper in our STEM/Science Lab because we are always making projects. We use blue for our habitat dioramas and black for our solar system projects. We use the tag board to make ecology posters, the base for tube marble runs, and to draw out plans for our STEM projects. Many of these supplies are not available to our students and we do not have an art teacher. The only art experiences the students receive are with me in science class in which I integrate the arts into physical, life and earth sciences. We appreciate your support of our classroom and all we are trying to learn.
