My students are really special to me for many reasons. I have a wonderful group of students who come from diverse backgrounds that make them unique. Being engaged in their own learning is crucial for ensuring their success. For example, I know that they learn best through active and meaningful experiences which they can connect across the content areas and to their own experiences.
I know my students' learning style and that learning by doing is essential for them because it is so highly motivating.
Unfortunately, most of the enriching experiences my students encounter are within the school walls because my students live in high poverty situations.
My students deserve to learn in the best way possible and that is by making real world connections!
My Project
In our classroom, students participate in many different group work rotations. Each week, students a copy of the "booklet" of the week that they will need for that week's stations. These booklets take a lot of paper in order to copy each week. We have run out of paper this semester so I am working to reformat everything we are doing in order to save space on paper! We also used colored paper in order to compile work for our STEAM lessons and projects.
My students learn best when they are able to create freely without learning about the amount of supplies available; paper is no exception!
I shouldn't have to decide not to do a lab or a station with my students because of lack of paper. My students deserve for the best activities to be planned for them and for their resources to be provided for them. We use handouts on a daily basis in our classroom. It is essential for for students to have the proper handouts in order to enhance their learning and creating!
