This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a high poverty area. The vast majority of my students are minority students with extremely diverse backgrounds due to the large number of transient students we have. I have a number of students for whom English is their second language. We are a Title I school. Most students cannot afford the basic supplies needed for class.
Most of my students are the first ones in their family to aspire to go to college, which not only affects the student's life but their family's life as well.
Many of my students struggle to connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world events going on around them. I want to use resources to not only help my students build tolerance and acceptance but to also build a small community within our school. Keeping my students motivated is always a huge challenge.
My Project
Our class is adopting new standards and most are project-based. We need copy paper and colored paper for them to be able to create projects showing they understand their new standards. We are also requesting an electric stapler to staple through the packets they will make for their projects. We also need sticky notes so they can answer the question for the ticket out the door to check to see where their understanding is each day.
My students need copy paper and colored paper to create their own foldable projects to ensure they understand the information from the new standards and the electric stapler will help bind these projects together.
Any help you can give our seniors to help ensure they are able to do these new projects would be greatly appreciated. Seniors have a lot of additional expenses their senior year such as grad bash, prom, senior trips as well as graduation expenses. So money is always tight for these parents. So any help I can get to ensure these seniors have the materials they need would be greatly appreciated.
