My classroom consists of 25 enthusiastic, caring, and energetic first graders. My students love to share and build upon each other's thoughts, move around the classroom, and engage in fun learning activities.
Kindness radiates throughout my classroom as students are constantly filling each other's buckets by giving compliments, clapping when other's share, and helping each other learn.
This diverse general education setting consists of eight English language learners, and two special education students. Students, with diverse abilities and interests, work together to solve problems, use higher order thinking, and grow as readers and writers.
My Project
One of the most basic and crucial materials students need to support their learning is paper. Paper has a multitude of roles in the classroom, it is used to differentiate instruction, to make learning more engaging, to support fine motor skills with cutting and pasting, and of course for holiday and year-round crafts.
My class consists of students with a wide array of abilities, interests, and preference for modalities of learning, with the use of paper, I can create fun and engaging activities to support all of my students needs.
Having differentiated instruction allows me to support my struggling learners, while still challenging my high students, and meeting those in the middle. Paper makes this possible as I can incorporate a multitude of activities and supports into each lesson.
The colored paper is significant in supporting the differentiation of student learning as it allows me to color coordinate the activities by ability and interest. Students will be split into groups and each group will be assigned a color. This makes it easy for students to grab a worksheet, activity, or assessment that will best meet their needs.
With the end of the year coming quickly, it is more important than ever to maintain student engagement. Having fun colored paper increases the excitement in student learning. This could be the difference between students meeting their goals, and promoting the the next grade level, or not.
