Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is struggling with a paper shortage! My students are excited to learn, and I regret wasting instructional time trying to get students to copy notes and word problems from a white board. Our students need the material in front of them, so they can access the concepts they need to learn.
My students are innovative, creative, and inspiring, yet schools are often short of the resources and tools they need to thrive.
Approximately 95% of our school's students come from low income backgrounds. 90% receive free or reduced lunch. 98% identify as coming from a minority group. We are an innovative turn-around school filled with students that deserve the best education. We are strong in our belief that every student has what it takes to succeed. We are committed to helping our students become 100% college and job ready.
My Project
As students dive deeper into real world mathematical concepts in 7th grade, having accessibility to the content is a must. Copy paper will allow each individual student to receive their own copy of the worksheets used in class. This will give my students accessibility to annotation strategies, and allow them to save their work for later reference. Copy paper will also allow me to print guided notes for students in order to increase the amount of time students have to practice the concepts.
The paper resources I've requested will allow me to meet the needs of my students, and further their understanding of the content.
Meaningful and attractive graphic organizers engage students in math. In my classroom, we are developing life skills such as using resources to persevere in solving problems. I'm asking for colored paper so anchor charts and graphic organizers that students use as resources can be easily found in their binders. These supplies will increase the rigor and engagement in my classroom.
