Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have art talents they didn't know they had. They often surpass my expectations, and their own, with their abilities and creativity. When I introduce new materials and techniques they get very excited and enthusiastic. Because my students come from low-income families, art supplies are not on their list of needs. (Many of them don't even own a box of crayons!) It's always exciting and rewarding for me, as well, when they squeal with delight with the introduction of every new project.
My Project
All my students will benefit from the variety of paper materials for their many art projects. From the littlest hands to the biggest, they all love creating with the vivid colors chosen. The variety of colors helps to improve their color sense and reinforces their understanding of color theory. What's more, the different types of papers allow my students to create two dimensional and three dimensional art pieces that are very inspiring. My youngest students are learning to cut and glue with these papers and my older students love creating sculpture using the paper with different origami techniques.
My budding artists in third, fourth, and fifth grades will benefit the most from these materials, allowing them to fine tune their motor skills and artistic vision.
This age group has come to realize their artistic potential and are very enthusiastic when creating art, but so much more focused. They are eager and committed to their art.
