Help me give my students an organized and beautiful classroom. We are a busy 2nd grade group with over 40 students that transition through my doors daily. Our classroom is often littered with papers, books, folders, and supplies.
They are growing and learning in the same small, country, school community. In my classroom I have had a very diverse group of over 50% are receiving a variety of academic accommodations such as speech, OT, MTSS, EBD and ASD services. I am the primary Math and Science teacher in Second grade. I transition twice a day with some children mainstreaming throughout the day. We are packed over capacity and classroom organization is difficult.
Our school is filled with very bright, excited, and inspired students that need a more organized classroom environment for all of their supplies.
I am limited in funds, and to accommodate the size of my classes I need some help. I want my students to have the best experience possible while they're in my class. Please consider helping us on this amazing and exciting journey through exploring Science and Math in the most efficient way possible.
My Project
We are in need of rolling carts, with their own caddies and supplies. These materials will help to organize our Math and Sciences classes. We have 3 transitions a day and something as simple as a need for a sharpened pencil can through off the pass of a whole group lesson. As kids filter in and out of my classroom there are more and more casualties left behind (i.e. broken crayons, loose papers with no name, expo markers without lids, whiteboard erasers disappearing) its chaos!
"In a 2008 study, teachers at three separate public schools analyzed possible reasons behind the low grades of students in grades 3-12.
In all of the cases, the root of the [students’] problems – late work, unpreparedness, lax attitudes – related to the students’ organizational methods, or lack thereof. There was a direct correlation to the disorganization inside students’ desks, lockers, binders, book bags and pencil pouches and their success and grades". (https://www.parenttoday.org/an-organized-student-is-a-successful-student/) An organized student is a student that is prepared to succeed.
Also, our transition times greatly effect the overall classroom dynamic. When it takes longer to get ready we are missing out on precious instruction time. Often times a few students can hold up an entire lesson. This slows the momentum of the lesson and distracts students from what we are suppose to be doing. I have tried many different ways to organize my students with the resources I have, unfortunately we end up right back where we started. After many hours researching classroom layouts and organizational strategies I discovered that rolling carts for group with their own supplies is the best way to go. Please help us get our organization under control ensuring that we are all much more successful leaders of the future.
