This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 3rd grade students are inner city, low income children. They all qualify for Title I and free lunch. They come to me with very little exposure to literature and learning. Many have had no preschool experience. About 3/4 of my students enter school significantly behind their peers from more affluent areas.
My students make the effort to come to school every day, regardless of their circumstances.
They work cooperatively, problem solve, and do their best every day to learn as much as they can.
My Project
My students run through paper and pencils like they were snacks. They love to draw and write, and and are always asking for more paper to keep drawing on.
We need paper and pencils to keep making stellar work!
We're running dangerously low on pencils and paper in the art room. I hate to deny my students pencils, and it makes me happy when I can say yes when they ask me to take a pencil back to class with them.
My students don't have paper and pencils at home. I want them to continue to be creative outside my classroom, so when they ask to take the most basic of supplies home with them I would like to continue to be able to say yes.
