Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My children come from a high poverty community. A high percentage are in school by 8:00 a.m. for our free breakfast program and many stay until 6:00 p.m. for our after-school program.
What makes them special is the eagerness to come to school and want to interact with their peers and to be engaged all day long.
The children that enter my classroom are only 4 or 5 years old.
Keeping them engaged is a challenge. Creating areas in the classroom that will keep them excited to learn is my goal. I want to make their first year in school a positive experience and give them a foundation that will make them successful throughout their educational careers. They deserve every opportunity that every child their age is entitled to.
My Project
The paper and markers will give these children the opportunity to draw a picture of their favorite part of the story or they can make their own puppets to retell the story we have just read. The puppets will give them a visual of what the character will look like and will also allow me the ability to role play how to use puppets to retell a story. I want to allow the children to use visuals to sequence a story and their own puppets to share with friends and family members.
These resources will allow the stories we read in class to be acted out and retold through the eyes of little ones.
