Panther's Experiential Learning Outing To Build Vocational Skills
Help me give my students a hands-on experience learning how to plan and budget money. Responsible shopping and money management. We are going to be given a tour by a Boscov employee and then allowed to budget.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently working with 20 seniors who are part of a Learning Strategies class that focuses on transitional and vocational goals. These students are preparing for life after graduation and how to function on their own.
They are curious about their futures and are enthusiastic about planning fun and important learning experiences.
They are learning how to budget and spend money wisely. How to use manners and learn appropriate social skills.
These students are working really hard and have many talents. They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds as well as diverse cultures/ethnicities.
My Project
The senior vocational class is working on money management and they would like to attempt to visit a store and plan out a budget. They are learning the value of money and what is needed to function in the world. We are planning on going to a department store and learning how to shop, budget and spend. They will be given money and will utilize the strategies they've learned in class.
This class is learning skills to help them organize, plan, budget and spend appropriately.
We feel if they learn these skills and have hands on experiences, they will become more engaged. Many of the students are disengaged and feel as if they have no concrete plans for the future. They are absent frequently and sometimes fail to do assignments. With theses planned vocational/experiential field trips, we are hoping that the students will feel more positive about their futures after graduation in June, 2019, start re-engaging in the learning process and begin to prepare for a rewarding job placement.
Job employment and the ability to utilize what you earn without being left with no money is a focus of the class. They want to be independent and able to be financially secure.
