This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are very good students who love their school and teachers. They smile and hug because they feel appreciated. They come primarily from extended family Hispanic households rich in diversity and complexity. Students thrive despite the challenges associated with low income families. Their families love them and always want to provide more. These students bring a rich variety of cultural influences and are proud of their heritage. They are not ready to give up and gladly face the struggle to survive and readily give more when challenged.

My Project

We are seeking to replace a broken popcorn machine. Palomitas Perfect Flight is a story about a paloma (dove) who doesn’t always fly straight to school. Palomitas Perfect Flight is an allegory to coming to school every single day to achieve perfect attendance. We at our Elementary are seeking to meet our perfect attendance goal of 98%. Perfect attendance provides optimum educational opportunity. Incentives are commonly used but can be expensive. Popcorn is a viable method to promote attendance and provide a healthy treat at no cost to the palomitas (children). We believe that the treat will bring smiles and increase attendance.
