Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are going on a dinosaur hunt! Soon my class will be starting our unit on fossils and dinosaurs. Currently I teach second grade in a low-income school district in east San Jose. Since dinosaurs are our next area of study, it is my hope to provide them with their very own excavation experience. Using dino kits from Carolina Biological Supply Co. my young adventurers become modern-day dinosaur hunters! The kits contain steel hammers and chisels just like real paleontologist tools. The class will use four different kits to assemble four different dinosaurs. Together the students will unearth the skeleton, reassemble the bones, and paint and display them. The bones snap together and have movable parts allowing the children to better visualize dinosaurs of long a go. Included in the kit is a fact-filled field guide that gives the dirt on dino excavations. No bones about it, my students would really learn about science, dinosaurs, charting and writing about their findings in their own field journal. Additionally the class will learn all about teamwork through this experience. Thank you for your consideration of our proposal.
