I am a third grade language arts teacher. My school has 49 percent of its students on free or reduced lunch. As a language arts teacher, my greatest desire is to nurture a love of reading in the students I teach. I would like to give them the opportunity to read chapter books on their own reading level and at their own pace. In order to achieve this goal I would like to have a library of "Pajama Party Books". These books would be specifically designated for take home reading. The students would check out the books and bring them home to read. They could keep them several nights or even over a weekend. The books would be appropriate for the students' reading level and would be of high interest to them. This project would be especially important for students who are unable to go to the public library or whose parents are unable to purchase many books for use at home. The materials necessary to implement this project would be sets of chapter books, ziplock bags to protect the books, and storage containers. This would be a wonderful way to encourage reading anytime. I want my students to enjoy reading and consider it an important part of their lives.
