My Students

As a visual arts specialist teaching fine arts, I have the joy of teaching imaginative students in a creative learning environment.

My students express themselves beyond the spoken and written word through their manipulation of art mediums. I encourage them to grow artistically and I'm excited see them investigate the use of materials, processes, and ideas. I'm proud of them for their willingness to reach beyond their comfort level and share their expressive artworks.

My Project

The primary goal of my project is to offer my students an in-depth study of Henri Matisse using his ideas and art for inspiration to create original art. Matisse’s cut and painted paper artworks provided a positive reinvention in the art world and encouraged artists to overcome personal disabilities and create beautiful artworks. Students will refer to the artwork of Henri Matisse to create their own art with shapes and colors that represent their personalities, and apply symbolism in the background to represent their interests.

This project will provide my students with an exciting study as they focus on the elements of art color, shape, and space as they abandon the use of paints in favor of “Painting with Scissors” making layered paper artworks cutting colored and painted paper to create abstract and formal shapes in the style of Henri Matisse.

The materials will help inspire my students as they explore Matisse’s art, style, and philosophy toward art. They will make their personal art “paintings” with the colored paper, scissors, and glue as they continue their growth as artists through the process of pursuing creative excellence.
